I wonder if this sentence has a grammatical error and I think it should be "Let him be."

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but I hear "leave" as slightly more aggressive, as if there was some [more] intervention happening.

Example:

1: I can’t believe he’s still sleeping!
2: Leave him be.
1: But I didn't try to wake him.
2: Well, just let him be.

When I hear "Leave him be" I assume that the speaker comes from the southern part of the US (or maybe the UK after reading the other responses). The same seems to hold true for "Leave it be" instead of "Let it be".
