    Default intellectual rigor

What does this "rigor" mean? There's no many definitions in the dictionary, is it "inflexible accuracy or adherence of something"?

ex)As the personnel director for a medium-sized advertising company, I lament the demise of the liberal arts in universities. Subjects like philosophy, history, and logic are very necessary in developing the skills I look for in prospective employees....These days, students can breeze through four years of an undergraduate program without developing sufficient intellectual rigor.

"intellectual rigor" requires one to be: thorough, meticulous, accurate, logically consistent.
