Historic means something that is or will be remembered as part of history because important things happened in that time or place. For example, a historic building or a historic day (it doesn't necessarily refer to something old).
Historical means something that is related to the past and it can be ancient.

historic momument
and
historical monument

For example if you say it was a historic day maybe an important thing happened in that day such as presidential election or a demonstration. By the way mostly I've heard historical monument which means an ancient one.

Historic is IMPORTANT in history. An historic event, an historic day, an historic castle. (Yes, I write "an" because I say 'istoric. Both are okay.)

Historical simply means that it was in the past. This site's historical use for debris disposal has created groundwater contamination. The historical data shows that incidents of bee stings is the greatest in May.
