Right now the new is you, but someday not too long from now, you will gradually become the old and be cleared away. Sorry to be so dramatic, but it is quite true.

The author is saying that the way that things are right now is the way that they should be. The author understands how death is an integral part of life and would not change anything is he had the power to do so.
