words about tap water

Dear teachers,

I am looking for a way of saying "turn the tap water smaller." I know "smaller" might not be the correct way of saying it, but I hope you understand what I was trying to say.

And, I also want to know how to say the opposite. I have heard people saying "turn the tap water wider." I don't know if that is right.

I don't think I've heard "Turn the tap wider" but I have heard "open it up a little more" so I suppose "close it up some."

But I'd probably say something like "You're wasting water. Turn it down a bit." Or "Lessen the flow of water." I suppose it might matter why I was giving that direction. "Too much water" might do it.

When I am at the squirting end of a hosepipe, I tend to call to my minion at the tap end "Too much!" or, if I want her to increase the flow, "More!". These 'instructions' work.
