agree with or to

"I agree with what he said."
"I agree to his suggstion."

That's what I learn at school. But is there any real difference from the point of a native's view in this word "agree to/with"? Do you really bother to think which preposition to choose when talking using "agree"?

I agree _______ his words.

Should I fill in "to" or "with"?

Yes. There is a clear difference in meaning.

We don't consciously think about them, but some part of the brain does the processing.

Think about what you have learnt at school. Which do you think is appropriate?


Note:
I agree with his suggestion - I think he has suggested the right thing.
I agree to his suggestion - I give permission for the action he has suggested to go ahead.
