what feeling do junkies get?
What feeling do junkies (addicted people) get / experience before and after taking drugs? In fact I'm looking for the words that we use for these two situations (before and after taking drugs). Like the word "hangover" that we use for the feeling we get the day after drinking too much alcohol.
Re: what feeling do junkies get?
Before: withdrawal symptoms
During: high (adj.) ('Let's get high') or 'a high' (n.); with less strong drugs it could be 'a buzz', or 'a hit' rather than 'a high'
After: hangover, or after sudden and complete abstinence - 'cold turkey'.

Re: what feeling do junkies get?
When you take drugs you can get (a) high, a rush, a buzz, stoned, etc. Afterwards you can feel a come-down. With junkies (genuine addicts) there would be withdrawal-not just a hangover, but the need to consume more.

But isn't that what a hangover is (withdrawal symptoms), though mixed with dehydration :-?

Thanks very very much. May I ask you to give some example sentences?

I don't think a normal hangover after just one evening of over-indulgence is a withdrawal symptom. I only associate withdrawal symptoms with addiction.

I think withdrawal is more severe- I have had hangovers, but didn't feel a desperate need to drink.
Re: what feeling do junkies get?
Slightly off-topic, but my way of avoiding hangovers is to keep on drinking.

Also slightly off-topic but in light of the other thread that's going on about hyphens and dashes, I'm interested in Tdol's use as shown above. That appears to be a hyphen but with a space only after it and not before. Was that intentional?

I use -(no space) as a dash and -(space)...-(space) instead of brackets.
