Default the use of ''would have done sth"

    Context:

A writer in the 1980s compiled a book in Ancient Chinese, because the book would contain a lot of anicent Chinese quotations, and he chose to use the ancient language of China to write the book.

So which tense should I use?:

    1. Since his book would contain many anicent Chinese quotations, he used Ancient Chinese to write it.
    2. Since his book would have contained many anicent Chinese quotations, he used Ancient Chinese to write it.
