Do volunteers work for thrift shops to donate money to charities? I've heard of "soup kitchen" volunteers in Korea, but never of "thrift shops".
ji15)...Many charities help feed poor people. We can also give our time. People can spend a few hours a week working for charities. They could work in soup kitchens or in thrift shops that give money made to charity.
"Thrift shops" is a common term/facility in the U.S. usually selling used, but usable, clothing and/or household goods, but not food.
It's the same here in the US, except they are called "thrift" stores or shops.
People donate used (but still in good condition) items which are sold, so there's a double benefit of being able to buy clothes or other items very inexpensively and the revenue collected also goes to support the poor in some way.
I'm not a teacher, but I write for a living. Please don't ask me about 2nd conditionals, but I'm a safe bet for what reads well in (American) English.
In Aust/NZ the usual term for a charity operated second-hand store is op(p)-shop (opportunity shop).
