apparent paradox
Which does this "apparent" mean? "seeming" or "obvious"?
64gp)...Most people want to live a long, healthy life...But the "French Paradox" doesn't support the ides. The French eat and drink more than any other nation. They are also heavy smokers who experience more problems with their livers, kidneys, and stomachs that people from the U.S and the U.K.... So what is the reason for this apparent paradox?

Seeming. (I'm not sure I see what's 'paradoxical' about self-destructive but enjoyable behaviour. This presumes that there's a dogma [the words are related] that everyone 'should' behave so as to live as long as they possibly can.)
