Sentence as a direct object and single indirect object.

Can sentence be a direct object?
For instance when I say: "Tell me what places you visited while you were in China" where is the direct object of the verb "tell" here? Can the whole sentence "what places you visited while you were in China" be the direct object?

And can an indirect object be without direct one?
Instance: "Tell me about places you visited while you were in China."
I see indirect object "me" but where is the direct one?

Actually, I can make assumption (though maybe strange assumption) that there is "it" after "me" in both instances but it's just omitted. But I am not quite sure about this.

That is a a giant noun phrase, not a sentence. "Places" is the heart of it. The rest just tell you which places.

I don't know what you mean about the "it." If it helps you to understand this, you could think of it as "Tell me information/a story about the places..."
