What is his job

I read a short story. A man is telling his new girl friend on his job. He said: "I go down after wrecks" I could not understand that is his job. Please help.

He dives (scuba diving) to reach shipwrecks. He might work for a company which retrieves items from shipwrecks, or photographs them, or tries to raise the sunken ship.
