    Default is my understanding correct?

    "I couldn't help but overhear your conversation." I understand this sentence in simpler way, "I heard your conversation." Is my understanding correct?

    The speaker did indeed hear the conversation, but is conveying the idea that s/he did not deliberately listen to it.
