Definite vs indefinite article Which one is correct?

Hi teachers,
Which one is correct? If both of them are, what is the reason for that?

What has he got on the night table?
a) He has got an alarm clock.
b) He has got the alarm clock.

Both are correct. We need more information to tell which is better.

These are the instructions: Look at the drawings and complete the answers to the questions.

It is an exercise in my manuscript. Someone draw the picture for me as well as many others. I give the students, they are beginners, the picture and a few questions out of it, as I do with the rest of the pictures.
Eg.
1. What is he doing?
2. What is there on the night table?
3. Where is the alarm clock?
4. What has he got on the night table?

See above for my comments. As I've said at #4, I don't really like "What has he got on the night table?" We don't tend to refer to the things people keep/place on tables using "to have got".

What is on the boy's/man's night table?

Note that in BrE, we call it a "bedside table".
