That's a lot of repetition of "and", you're right. You could try:

The mother will call when she comes into the house, then the child will recognise the parent's voice, come running and call back.

But out of curiosity, if I wanted to keep the ands in the sentence and just change the use of punctuation (if needed), would I need to place any commas in the sentence? Or does it read OK as it stands?

It doesn't need any more punctuation, but it's an awkward sentence. Why would you want to keep all the "and"s, emsr2d2's sentence is much better.
