    Default emigrate vs immigrate

"emigrate" seems to be related to the origin country, your homeland you are departing from, while "immigrate" to the target country you are entering, but I haven't seen "emigrate" used a lot instead of "immigrate", especially when I was in Canada. What do you think is the difference?

    Default Re: emigrate vs immigrate

You're right about the difference. If I decide to move away from the UK, I will be emigrating. Once I decide which country I would like to live in, I will emigrate to that country (from the point of the view of the UK) and I will immigrate to that country (from the point of view of that new country). There, I will be an immigrant.
