Question What's the meaning and german translation of....

    Good evening ,
I'm trying to translate Queen's song "We are the champions" with my 11 years old kids, but some idioms are even for me to difficult to translate. I thing to know the meaning, but I'm not sure:
    "I've done my sentence
    but committed no crime
    and bad mistakes
    I've made a few
I've had my share of sand
    kicked in my face
    but I've come through"

Could someone explain this song to me , please?
    Thank you very much
    My regards from Berlin

Although I haven't done anything wrong, I've still had a tough time.
Yes, I've made some mistakes along the way.
People have sometimes been mean to me; I've been bullied.
    But I've survived.

I'm not a teacher, but I write for a living. Please don't ask me about 2nd conditionals, but I'm a safe bet for what reads well in (American) English.

    Is that a set phrase?
I'm not a teacher, or a native English speaker. Feel free to edit my posts if you encounter any mistakes in them (be it grammatical or vocabular). It'll help me to improve my command of English.

It is a cliche that the timid weakling gets sand kicked in his face by a bully while he is at the beach, thus humiliating him in front of the pretty girls.
