s' vs s's ?

Which one is correct :

1. Wilgus' contribution to the development of...
2. Wiglus's contribution to the development of...

Would you say :

Apart from his attempt in principle there were no other (or others ?)

or

Apart from his attempt by and large there were no other (or others ?)

You will see both used. I was taught that we should add the -s after the apostrophe for surnames.

There are lots of arguments about this, but the advice I follow is this: If you pronounce two Ss, then you should write the second S. In other words, I write "Wiglus's", because I would pronounce it "wiglussiz" not "wigluss".

Incidentally, London has many parks, and one of them is St James's Park -- and that is the official spelling.
