Hello teachers,
in a recent English test my son wrote 'How was the flight?' instead of 'How was your flight?' and his teacher deducted half a mark for that. What do you say?

Could you provide more context?
It's hard to tell this way. Both sentences are correct, depending on the context:
-I just came from New York!
-Really? How was the(your) flight?
But, you could not say 'How was THE flight?' if the flight hadn't been mentioned before.
Maybe because ''How was your flight?'' is more common. But that does not give that teacher the right to make a deduction - your son did not make a mistake. Demand an explanation!
Anytime! ;)
p.s. Why 'better not'?
