Making sentense

Hi, dear teachers,

Have you recognized that I'm a ***** star member! I'm on the way to key member!

Since I've been here for a couple of months, I do have some thoughts to contribute to this forum. First, thanks to Mike, Cas, Ron, tdol and Red5. You've been of much help for ESL/EFL kearners. The forum is a valuable resource because it brings a collective mind to bear on questions posted. And your prompt replies are appreciated.

Second, as the attribute of UE is to help learner improve their English, the improvement includes better understanding of grammar, lexical usage, samentics, discourse and so on. As for me, I do learn something evey time from reading my posts or other learners. But on the other hand, I got very satisfying answers, but I still couldn't find myself making improvement in writing, I have to define 'writing' in a more narrow way, which means the ability a learner has to state his/her questions clearly and perfectly without confusing mistakes. Working as a team, you should be able to spot any gaps or omissions in what one person has written and contribute additional ideas. However, as a point of view from a learner, he would be glad to see if you can rasie a finger to help correct all of the sentences. I've noticed that RonBee corrects some of our sentences once in a while. That's very nice. It's not ever a crime to be picky when concerning language learning. :D

My point is how about start up a new forum where moderators assign any topic to learners to discuss about. Each learner has his/her say and put it into simply 50 words, and moderators have to correct each sentences written by learners.


For example,

Topic: Perfect Tense
I have been a memeber of UsingEnglish.com for 2 months. Teachers and learners here have been very nice and polite. I have recommended this forum to all of my students in my country. Some of them had registered before I told them. I hope it will have been some of help to them.



Topic: Subjuctive mood
The elders likes to boast their prime. My mom used to tell me she had a lot of diehard fans who wanted to marry her. She said if she had married to that rich and romantic Englishman, she wouldn't have to work her fingers to bone now. If she had married to that Englishman, we would not have to buy air-ticket to London, and we don't have to learn English now.


It's like a short essay which learners not only improve writing ability but build more stronger grammatical base. I must say it's going to increase your work load since you have full-time job there. But as a powerful forum, I think it should be a good idea. :D What's your opinion? :wink:

I wouldn't use the future perfect at the end there because it suggests that we have finished being of use.

Should we set up a writing folder to concentrate oon theis area. There have been a number of idea's, like this and Latoof's. I think a dedicated area wouldn't be a bad idea. How about you? I don't think the poetry and writing section is the same.
