| It will depend on whether you are writing with an American style guide or anywhere else. In American style, illogical or not, the comma and period ALWAYS goes inside the quotation marks. Everywhere else, if the entire phrase being quoted is a full sentence, then the period goes inside. Why don't you write a few and try - and let us know which style. {not a teacher, but a business writer} |

| The traditional typographical convention says inside, but since IT uses quotes frequently to denote strings to enter for precise outcomes, they are now using the punctuation outside so often that it has become normal as well. |
