It is often said that “Knowledge is power”. There are many ways of obtaining/acquiring knowledge. Two common ways are reading books and practical experiment. Each of these ways has its features and aims. Personally, I agree that “Not everything that is learned is contained in books”. In this essay, I will consider knowledge gained from both books and experience.
There are some similarity between knowledge gained from books and experience. Both of them are valuable. They help people to improve their work culture and life style and take/utilise their time and efforts to achieve.
Knowledge gained from books is summarized by our ancestors. It teaches us many things and provides us with an overview and a (the) deep understanding of the world. From books, we realize/know new things concerning our daily life, that we hardly pay attention to. If you don’t read books, have you ever wondered how flowers can pollinate or what makes a chameleon change its body colors or why dinosaur became extinct thousands years ago?
Meanwhile/On the other hand, knowledge gained from experiences is more applicable/effective. "The truth comes from practices and experience", a proverb says(said). Only by practicing and experimenting, can we realize what we lack and need to improve. For example, a surgeon who doesn’t have any experience on removing people’s appendix can easily/is susceptible to make fatal mistake such as forgetting surgical knife in patient’s stomach, which (It) would be disastrous.
Another example is that nobody can climb to the highest mountains (at) in their first attempt. They can not only read books to gain climbing skills but also have to practice climbing many times. In this case, knowledge coming from their own experience is more preferable/benificial and desirable.
Knowledge gained from experience can improve and advance the world and our society. There are a lot new inventions and new products, which could not be found from textbooks. Our society and world are developed through continuous practices and application of those knowledge, never found in books. Take the examples, such as internet, e-business etc. (are) all developed through new practices.
“Experience is the best teacher", a cliché goes this way. Knowledge gained from experience is more important as it stimulates our curiosity and creativity.
