Default 1984 Essay (Plz correct)

Hello, i have written my argument paragraph for 1984 essay that i have to write. I know they are not perfect, in fact i know they are probably bad. But please help me and post any comments, help, correction or hints that you have.

I know some quotation are missing, i need to find them.

Ill post 2 arguments now, and ill post 2 more later tonight when i get them typed and polished.

Thank you for youe help. :)

Opposite to the party members, who don’t have any freedoms and are totally controlled by the inner party, are the proles. The proles, being the working class of Oceania, the cheap or free labor, do get something in return. They are free, they can love, communicate and believe. As we can see by Wiston’s comments about the proles. “(Here Wiston explains how the proles have other freedoms and may have churches and gods if they wanted.)”(Pg. ) This type of freedom in a world controlled by the party seems impossible at first, how can a place where no one is ever alone have such freedoms? A normal response would be to join the proles, to want to be part their society. It wouldn’t matter if you had to work 13 hours a day and have almost no sleep. As long as you could be free, nothing else would matter. But, as we advance in the story, we can see how the proles are not completely free, but instead the party just more secretively controls them. The lottery, which feels the proles with hopes and keeps them working hard, is truly just a lie. “(Here Wiston explain the fraud of the lottery)” (Pg. ) And many spies are also used to keep an eye on the proles “(Wiston talks about the party members among the proles)”(Pg. ) The party uses this technique to stop any kind rebellion from forming. In the end the proles are nothing more than large majorities controlled by the government, to do the job that no one in the party wants to do.

To control the party members of Oceania, and maintain their loyalty to the party, the inner party relies very heavily on government control. One of the most noticeable forms of control, is the communication. Newspeak is a simplified version of English that is used to control the people by limiting their feelings, emotions, and the way to express them. A leading character in the development of the theme of Newspeak and language control, is Syme. When Wiston and Syme, both outer-party members, talk about Newspeak during a break from work. We can see a perfect example of a person brainwashed by the party.

“We’re getting the language into its final shape – the shape it’s going
to have when nobody speaks anything else… We’re destroying words
… Hundreds of them, everyday … Don’t you see that the whole aim
of Newspeak is to narrow the range of though? In the end we shall
make though-crime literally impossible, because there will be no
words in which to express it” (Pg. 54)

This quotation reveals how the people of Oceania, are controlled by Big Brother (BB) to use this new language. Syme, as can be clearly seen, knows too much about Newspeak, he understands how it is used to control. Newspeak was developed to control the emotions and feelings of the people that might oppose the party. But, sometimes this controlling method does not work, or is not very effective. As an example in the case if Wiston, he refuses to accept and adopt Newspeak as a form of communication. Therefore the party created the though-police.

How bad is it?

Sry one more argument here:

Though-police are the people in charge of physically controlling the people of Oceania. They enforce the law, and reform anyone suspected of committing though-crime. In the novel, the thought-police are seen as omnipresent, they are everywhere and can see everything and everyone. This is revealed by numerous comments made by Winston about the thought-police. “How often, or on what system, the though-police plugged in on any individual wire was guesswork. It was even conceivable that they watched everybody all the time.”(Pg. ) This permanent though of control, fear of vaporization, makes most people think twice about rebelling or even making any small comment about the party’s decision. We can see even Wiston questioning himself about starting the diary. “(Wiston thinks what could happen to him)”(Pg. ) Even Wiston who at this point had no real meaning for living thinks for a minute about the though-police. Although the thought-police was though to be powerful and omnipotent, in Part two of the book we can see Wiston committing many crimes against the party, we even find out about a secret rebellion forming, the Brotherhood. But as the novel progresses and we get towards the end. Wiston is caught, and even more, the rebellion we find out to all lies meant to catch people like Winston and Julia who oppose the party. Here we also find that the thought-police also reforms people, after Wiston’s visit to “Room 101”. We find him to be totally brainwashed to love the party. “He had finally won the victory over himself. He loved Big Brother.” (Pg. 311) The though-police took someone who once hated Big Brother and the party and who loved freedom, and has turned him into a peon of the party, who will live his life by a controlled schedule and will spend his free time with a woman who he doesn’t even know.

My first comment is that you call him 'Wiston'. Isn't he 'Winston'? You also write 'tough' instead of 'thought' quite a few times.

Here's an interesting site on the language of 1984:
http://www.newspeakdictionary.com/
And one on all of his work:
http://www.george-orwell.org/

I'll be posting some comments in a bit when I've had a chance to read it all.

The lottery, which feels the proles with hopes

You have a typing mistake here- it should be 'fills'

But, sometimes this controlling method does not work,

Even Wiston who at this point had no real meaning for living thinks

Fistly, you need a couple of commas:
Even Wiston, who at this point had no real meaning for living, thinks

Do you have a 'meaning for living'? You can have a 'reason for living' or you could say 'Winston, whose life had no meaning..'

Although the thought-police was though to be powerful and omnipotent,

'were' instead of 'was'?
