(The blue highlighted phrase sounds okay to me, but I cannot vouch as I am not sure about the subject)

Prof. Zimmerman's group sounds better. Or Prof. Zimmerman's research group.

I understand polymers are to do with plastics and are solid materials. I don't understand how a polymer would 'diffuse' (spread in all directions). I thought only gases or liquids diffuse.
