First of all, one of the most important things when building up a marketing research system is defining the need of research and explaining it well to the entire organization well. Lack of understanding of the need of for research could cause low quality or misleading outcomes. All the steps of the process directly belongs to the question of "why we need to gathering market information?". Therefore, any member of the process should be provided with a guidelines and frame which is explaining explains all of the details.
Market segmentation is another critical issue. For a super-tech automobile company, researching all segments of middle of to high income levels of income segmentations could be too board, so that leads leading to lots of expense and unnecessary information. With the same idea, too narrow of a segmentation provides missing may miss out the on opportunities in the market.
