This is the fifth part of my text "ON MONEY", please would you proofread it.
A love for money almost excludes any other love. It can change a human being completely and turn him into an automaton who sees the world around him only as a place where he can increase his wealth. For him ethics and moral exist only as an abstract idea, created by some stupid and idle persons called philosophers, who were hungry and walked in tatters all their life.
However, he hails Charles Darwin and his theory of natural selection. It makes him feel the chosen one, the one who belongs to a higher race. He looks at his less wealthy brothers and sisters with contempt and thinks that they have deserved to be abused and exploited. It is their own fault. Once they had a chance and they squandered it. It will never come back. After all, the Earth is not Paradise but a cruel place where the strong and the clever succeed, while the large majority has to sweat blood and still they remain poor.
If the rich man were satisfied only with accumulating his wealth, that would be a minor nuisance for the humankind. The problem is that he has become so bold and vain and believes that he and his money govern the world.
He thinks that he can buy everything and everyone. He has put a price tag on human beings, land, seas, oceans, mountains, even on the sky and planets. If he ever has a chance to meet God he will certainly asks him how much cost the Universe.
It happens that the rich man encounters a poor man. His initial thought is that the poor man is a misfit, a creature who could be compared to an ant or other insects. Out of curiosity the rich man starts talking to him, believing that a creature before him is one of the sycophants he meets every day.
Then the rich man discovers that the poor man does not give a damn about his money. The poor man talks about human existence, feelings, love, the human condition and everyday problems, and the rich man has a pounding headache. He cannot believe his own eyes and ears. He must have been dreaming a nightmare.
This misfit has made him feel like an idiot. His words have shattered his self-confidence and turned him into an ignoramus, as if he does not live in the same world. In his desperation, the rich man opens his thick wallet, picks up a wad of notes and offers it to the poor man, but the latter declines.
The rich man feels as if someone had slapped him in the face. Blushing, he asks the poor man, why he does not want money and the poor man answers that he does not need it. He is completely satisfied with his meagre income. He is so occupied with other things that money does not even exist in his mind.
For the rich man his words are the final blow which disintegrates his wealth into pieces. He turns around and without saying anything starts running, away from the poor man, his poverty and his words of wisdom.
TO BE CONTINUED.
