introduction about /the Westward Movement/

What do you think about this introduction about/the Westward Movement/:?:
To understand the history of USA, we cannot rely on one single fact such as: the mixes of races, the diversified economy and the highly accelerated industrialization, but among these events was the westward movement which is considered as an important historical phenomenon.
