apud
Dear Forum Users,
I am reading an academic article where I found:
(e.g. Grice, 1989 apud Gibbs, 1999)
Could anyone please explain what 'apud' means here?
Thank you.

Re: apud
Effectively, 'in'. The Latin apud is usually translated 'in the house of', but like the Frech chez it can be used much more widely. There's a book edited by Gibbs, and the quotation comes from a piece (article, academic paper, letter..) included in that book.
