ON THE BEACH

She came out of the river carrying in her hand the bikini top
which strap was broken.
It started to rain and heavy drops drummed her firm breasts
and trickled down her shapely legs.
Despite the pouring rain, men did not seek shelter,
and watched her as if they were enchanted.
A young Palestinian boy at that moment forgot Gaza and his family he had left behind.
An African man who had been waiting for the residence permit for years,
now lost perception of time.
A former Iraqi soldier without his leg felt as if he could fly.
There were others also with their pain which suddenly dissipated.
They were all praying for the rain never to stop, for her blond wet hair never to dry,
for the miracle to heal their deep wounds.
