can someone checks for my grammar? i finished my essay about global warming , but not certainly about my grammar? Can someone just look at it and help me out. THanks all
Of all the problems that we are facing the environment today those cause severe damage and flooding. San Francisco, New York City, New Orleans, Seattle, and Miami all experience major flooding from the ocean level having risen so high. No, this isn’t total fantasy. These events all could occur. All of them could result from one thing -global warming. Global warming is a major problem with many consequences that people do not realize could occur. What is global warming, and how is it affecting the Earth and its inhabitants? Many people ask these questions though few attempts to understand them. If kept unchecked, global warming would pose as a serious problem for future generations.
Global warming is also called climate change; it slowly increases of the Earth’s surface temperature. Climate changes may result from both natural and human causes. First of all, many of the Earth's natural disasters, such as volcanic activity, and other factors, have caused our planet's atmosphere to become either colder or warmer. Other cause is human which is probably doing the most damage to the environment. Human beings are warming the earth's atmosphere by burning of fossil fuels. We use coal, oil, and natural gas to generate electricity, warm our homes, power our factories, and run our cars. Plus, the population also is another human major cause, as more people are born; we need more methods of transportation, such as cars, trucks, trains, planes, boats. The more transportation created, the more greenhouse gases will produce and it damages our environment faster and easier. As we know, when the population increases, we need more oxygen to breath and produce more carbon dioxide into the air. This problem can be solved by the forest which uses carbon dioxide and give off oxygen. However, trees are cut down for development, agriculture, and other purposes, they not only can not use up the carbon dioxide in the air as they usually do, but they actually release it when they decayed or burned. Finally, we also change our environment through wars, “along with the possibility of the extinction of mankind by nuclear war, the central problem of our age has therefore become the contamination of man’s total environment” (752).
Global warming will affect many aspects of daily life in the future. We will live in a hazardous atmosphere. It affects many different environments such as plains, coastal, polar, forests, mountains, and deserts. There will be a lot of fires than expected because of global warming which add extra heat to that region in addition to the heat they already have there. One of the huge fires that started for last few weeks in Los Angeles that had burned 1,700 acres is the warning for all of us. Also, the coastal regions will flood because of all the extra rain which will affect us to leave our homes. The biggest danger is that global warming will cause sea levels to rise dramatically. According to Bill McKibben, he stated on his essay The Environmental Issue from Hell, “In 1998 the sea level in the Bay of Bengal was higher than normal, just the sort of thing we can expect to become more frequent and severe. The waters sweeping down the Ganges and the Brahmaputra rivers from the Himalayas could not drain easily into the ocean – they backed up across the country, forcing most of its inhabitants to spend three months in thigh-deep water.” (747). In addition, imagine about all of the snow covered mountains peaks will melt causing floods, in contrast to the forest which will dry up and become deserts and causing more fire because of the lightning and dry wood from the trees. And finally, deserts will become hotter than they usually are, and making us harder to cross it.
The effect of the global warming in human is much more dangerous. Because of the greenhouse effect, the sunlight will approach and touch our skins easier and damage the skins faster which cause skin cancer. As global warming hits, we may not be able to do some of the activities as we used to do, such as swimming, running, or fishing. Besides, we will have to wear sunscreen more often than we used to. Also, we will need to drink more water when we do physical activities outside because of heating. The only thing we can do is to stay in the house, and we might end up burning ourselves if we ran out of energy to operate the air conditioner. Its effects appear in many different ways, anywhere in the world, under any circumstances without our notices.
Global warming is a big threat to our nation and the world. Look at what is happening around the world, and you will see there is a pollution problem. If there was no greenhouse effect then there would be no global warming. The greenhouse effect causes global warming to increase, influencing human and other creatures. There are many ways to help preventing global warming and protecting people both. If people try to help out, then it would preserve and maintain the ozone layer to last longer. But, nothing will be done until us as human start to take part in saving the ozone, or we “will scare people by saying what will happened to us if we do not do something, such as all the birds will die, the canyon will disappear beneath a reservoir, we will choke to death on smog.” (746)
