Please excuse poor grammar and english. I have written an essay that i need to be look over. Any advice would be great. No need for conclusion?
The painting “Pleasure of the Evening” by Jean Baptiste and the Gustave Moreau “Salome Dancing before Herod” both emphasize the way humans perceive the world. Jean Baptiste known for his magnificent landscape drawings, emphasizes the beauty of nature. Gustave idealized long-dead civilization by focusing on the utopian life of the upper-class. Jean Baptiste drawing “Pleasure of the Evening” produces a tranquil feeling through his intelligent use of three colors: yellow, orange, and black. These “warm colors” of yellow/orange sunlight colors mimic the way evening is seen as it escapes into dusk. Baptiste succeed in creating a “natural feeling” by using organic objects such as grass, tree, and lake. Instead of making the women who are enjoying the evening stand out, they are blended into the nature itself through shadow. This makes nature as the main focus of the drawings and causes the women to be as a supplement to nature. In addition, these women who are enjoying themselves, are unaware that they are bring drawn. Hence, Baptiste is pointing out how nature is the first thing we sense and the first pleasure of the world.
Gustave Moreau “Salome Dancing Before Harod” uses light, colors and imagination to emphasize the ideas of Romanticism. The usage of royal colors: red, blue and purple gives a sense of majestic power to the Harod who sits at the center of painting. By using sunlight to focuses only on the Harod and Salome in the dark palace, the Harod and the Salome are given a divine-like status. The pots, crafts, statues, gold coins, and exotic ivory that lies scattered on the floor emphasized an idealized civilization. The Salome is dressed in lavish silk, and her purple dress signal nobility. Hence, Gustave is pointing out how the class system determines a person life and consequently his/her perception of the world. Through this utopian civilization, human often attach values to objects and people set forth by the upper class of society.
