Can anyone explain me about the verb use with gerund and verb use with infinitive

There are many different uses- after some verbs, we use a gerundand after others an infinitive, with or without 'to'. This is not really a question of grammar, but one of habit, so the answer is in a dictionary, not in a gramar book. We do use gerunds as the subject of a verb and after prepositions.
