Advertisements in medical journals are one of the promotion techniques that convey messages from the pharmaceutical companies to the health professionals. Doctors reported using advertisements in medical journals as one of their source of information. Contrary to the doctors’ believe that underestimate the effect of drug promotion on prescribing behavior, evidence discloses that there is a strong correlation between the amounts of drug prescribes and amounts of drug advertisements receive by doctors. Also, researchers revealed that medical journals advertising may lead to improper prescribing and increase drug usage.

A systematic review as part of the research proposal will be carried out to seek to evaluate the available studies on the pharmaceutical advertisements in medical journals. The results will provide background knowledge for future research especially involving comparative studies between X and Y.
