Please do me a favor by checking a posting up
I have some troubles in understanding a piece of a transcript on a CNN program, which I quote as the last paragraph of this posting.
And I have some following opinions:
"Purchasing a little, not much, stuff" also is a case of "purchasing stuff".
However, "purchasing a little stuff made in the USA" is unlikely to make (huge) US trade deficit decline.
Therefore: "a lot of nations doing well and purchasing stuff made in the USA" is not clear enough to cause, beyond reasonable doubt, US trade deficit to decline.
And on another hand, "doing well in purchasing stuff made in the USA" may be better.
Furthermore:
For "doing well in purchasing", there are many examples by Goggle at Internet
For "doing well and purchasing", no examples by Goggle.
Thanks in advance for your checking these words up.
"US trade deficit declined unexpectedly for the second consecutive time in March, which according to PNC Financial Services Group chief economist Stuart Huffman, is due in part to a lot of nations doing well and purchasing stuff made in the USA."

http://download.putclub.com/update/m...6cnnbn0514.mp3
the transcript corresponds to a piece of the audio clip, from 0'08" to 0'22".

You're most welcome.
Come to think of it ... you're the second person to have asked. About a month or so ago another poster asked the exact question.
