Open manholes in Peshawar city

It is striking reality that Peshawar City is full of open manholes which has given birth to so many incidents. One of such tragic incidents occurred On July 29, in which young girl Fakria Gul 6 years of age became the victim of one of the open manholes on University road. People protested against the open manholes and dawn also published a news report regarding drowning of a little girl. On Aug 22, Peshawar High Court Chief Justice Tariq Pervez Khan gave 15 more days in addition to his earlier deadline to the district government for covering open manholes and drains in the provincial capital. But still there are a lot of open manholes in different parts of the city.
One of the examples is the Warsak Road in which we have a lot of manholes on the main road and some of them are open for the last six months. Two of such open manholes are near “Iqra Ruzatul Atfal” school. These manholes are near the edge of the main road and school children can easily become the victims of these open manholes. These open manholes are of very vital importance because of their nearness to school. Children when comes out of the school, they do not look down and just rush towards their parents or their vehicles which are waiting for them and are trapped in the open manholes which the telephone authorities have left open for them. Not only children have become the victims of these manholes but so many motorcyclist, cyclist and other people have received severe injuries. These manholes are also contributing their part to the traffic accidents. There is no indication for these open manholes so that the people can save themselves. Some time the local people keep some small stones around it which is not a safe and a permanent solution.
The manholes which are covered are still very dangerous. Some of them are lower than surface of road and some of them are above the road. The raised above the road is in the front of Peshawar Public School and College gate2 and the lower ones are near the city school in front of the telephone exchange.
Now the question is that whose is responsible for this?
Surly, the telephone authorities and the local government. But if the telephone authority, local govt. can not reach here so it the moral responsibility of these schools to cover them up. It is my appeal to the govt. of Peshawar to please do not play with the lives of these young children as they are our future and take some practical steps to cover the open manholes through out the city.
