Synonyms for poet:
artist, author, balladist, bard, dilettante, dramatist, librettist, lyricist, lyrist, maker, metrist, odist, parodist, poetaster, rhapsodist, rhymer, rimer, sonnetist, versifier, writer
poet - Synonyms from Thesaurus.com
The Master is the Poet of this place.
He's the rhyme-master of cyberspace.

As you can see, rhyme-master is not on the list. But I have a license to make up words. It's called a poetic license.

How I became a poetaster!
I have talked in rhyme since I was very little, perhaps since I began talking. When I was a child I wore my aunt's dress. I spun around, and I was talking in rhyme.

Until about eight months ago, I wrote poems for myself, but I never told them to anybody (read them to anybody). I wrote my first meaningful poem when I was twelve. Its topic was the folux wagon car. I rhymed it in the school way.

My roommates enjoyed my poem and told me that my poem was good. Since that time, I have written poems on many topics. My poems are usually short, and they are formed the standard way. A friend suggested that I write some children's poems to be published in a book of children's poetry. Perhaps some day I will do so, but right now I do not have the time for it.
