The text „Dirty Boulevard“ tells the story about the poor little Pedro who gets forced to beg on a boulevard where movie stars arrive by limousine. But nobody who sits in these limousines bothers about the little boy. So he has to go back to his house, which is made out of cardboard and newspapers. The only thing he is dreaming about is to disappear.
Martin Luther King said in his famous speech that he had a dream, the dream that his children are not judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character.
The American Dream: If you work hard enough you can become rich, no matter who you are or where you come from. Many people live this dream, but there are much more people who do not have the chance to live him, the American Dream.
Let us talk about the people on the streets. There are black people, white people, old ones, even kids on the streets. They live from begging, stealing, murdering, no one cares about them, no one gives them the chance to live their Dream.
They live in poverty, violence and racial problems are omnipresent, they have nothing to lose, so what else shall the do except of begging, stealing, murdering, …
I think it is the fault of the US government that so many people cannot live their own Dream. It would be better for the government to solve the problems in their own country, and not to play the world police. |
