Family VS Work

I'm currently writing this essay, can someone please help me proofread and please leave me some comments to improve my essay... thank you...

Family VS Work
“Click 2006” is a movie based on a middle-class family, in which the father works for a company and brings home money to support the family. The main character Michael Newman is a workaholic architect working hard to keep his family together, and make his family happy. But the problem with one parent working in a family is that they have to work much harder in order to satisfy the family’s dream to have a nice place to live, and nice toys for the child. However, when the father is the only one who works for the family, he faces more difficulties and stresses than a parent in a two-parent household does, and he has to put his work before his family. In the process of getting push and force by Michael’s boss with a promotion, he had to work hard in order to stay in the company as he wishes. As a whole, at the end of the movie Michael finally realize that missing quality time with the family would led him left out and have a meaningless life. Although, he is now the CEO of the company, losing his family at the end is not what he wanted. The moral of the story is that, work can lead you to wealth but can also make you lose your family.
According to Lillian Rubin’s article “The Transformation of Family Life” when a pair of working class worker marries and have a child, they had to give up their family quality time in order for them to survive in the society. In a way that means that the children would miss another side of the parent’s time, and the family becomes single parented. In having two middle class parents, they have to give up something in order to keep the family together. In this case, the parents either had to give up their family or their job. In other words, there is no way that the two would not conflict with each other (206-218). Also this article talks about married couple’s sex life, because of working, female feels tired from work, and they wanted to avoid having sex. However, men looks at this differently than women, such as this is a way for them to seek pleasure, which when a women says “no” the men seem to be unsatisfied. Nevertheless, if a woman have sex with their husband after work, they just put it as “on the run” not as pleasant as men looks at sex (Rubin 215-216). Family transformations come into play, once they had children, and marriage is no longer marriage.
On the other hand, according to Christine L. Williams’ article “The Glass Escalator: Hidden Advantages for Men in the “Female” Professions” men have a better chance of getting promotions, and being hired in the society. Men in this case, always being the one who forced and pushed by their boss or the administration department those men must work hard in order to keep the jobs or to receive promotions. This means that men have higher expectations in society, they cannot stay in the same place for the rest of their lives (291-307).
When we are viewing the movie “Click 2006” with the perspective of these two articles, we would be able to see the struggles of a middle-class family and the way in which society treated men. Although the movie is fictional, in order to make a movie or a story there must be some fact behind it. When we see that movie Michael is being force to do the job by his boss and to get it finished in a limited amount of time. Michael is really being pushed by society not by his boss; women may experience the same force, but not as heavy as men look at them. For instance, a woman as an administration, the reason they want to be an administrator, because women want to proof to men that they could do their jobs too. However, when a men work as administration, they are looking for higher salaries and the power as men should had, which show that men should look forward in career field. As William had said in her article, although men work in a female profession, in many men’s eye when men takes female professions they seem to degrade themselves (qtd. William 306). In the article, men seems to take over female profession jobs too, indeed, the women hope to have men to work for them too, such as administration, supervising , and heavy duty jobs. Because of men need to look forward into career field Michael’s boss would be able to take advantage over him in certain ways. Moreover, his boss also understands that Michael is the only one who works in the family which also gave his boss greater opportunities to control his work pace.
Similarly, because of being forced to get promoted, Michael works hard inside and outside of his work place, which means that he has no time left for his two children. Under all the stress that Michael is facing he becomes more emotional abusive towards his children. For example, when the two kids drew him a blueprint for a tree house he banned their idea and started to take his anger out on them. This does not mean that he did not like his children, but simply that he was under a great deal of stress so he could not handle anymore of them.
Through watching the movie “Click 2006” we can tell where all this perspective is coming from in the two articles, and this movie it really demonstrates that society does push men to their limit, and because of that, men would face more stresses and difficulties than women would. Although, women face discrimination in the workforce, men are the ones who always struggle to survive in society. For instance, women can have a marriage and let the men support them, vise versa. However, problem comes along when a woman supports a man, such as the people around that man would see him as a humiliation to men. On the other hand, when men support the women, the people around that woman would see her as blessedness. In other words, society forces men to support the women and give them everything they have, so there is no need for them to get a job outside the house. Although, women in this case see themselves being treat unfairly, but the real deal behind it is that men wanted to be the ones who support them and do not want women facing the competition in the workplace. Which in the movie “Click 2006” Michael work his little behind off and the only thing he wishes is to have his wife home to take care of the house and the kids. However, Michael’s wife thinks differently than what Michael is thinking. For example, she wishes to have a wonderful time with the family. Such as a family gathering, like a family dinner with Michael’s parent, etc., but Michael was under the force of getting his work completed, consequently he wave over the dinner and work on his work. Therefore, men see work is more important than family and woman see family is lot more important than work.
In conclusion, many women seem to be treated unfair in the workplace, but they had never realized until they are married, such as how hard men work in society in order to keep a family together. Men seem to dominate the workforce; nevertheless, they just did not want their women to suffer in the outside world.
