In today’s world it is really necessary to know at least one foreign language. Learning English is considered a good choice. The English language is one of the most widely spoken languages in the world.
Some people claim that studying English in one’s home country is preferable. These people believe that when one studies English at home one learns to understand the word definitions more accurately, and in the context of one's native tongue.
I believe this opinion is in error. If one wishes to know English well, one must understand the word in the context of English-English translation. In other words, the environment is essential to knowing the meaning of the words. This said, in my view there is a big advantage to studying English at home. This advantage is cost; it is clear that learning English at home is less expensive than learning it abroad.
In my opinion, studying English abroad is a worthwhile undertaking, because one will be in an English environment. One will not be able to speak one’s native language. It is a good way to meet new friends. One will have the chance to use English in everyday communication. On the other hand, one can feel homesick, or get lost, in a foreign country.
Nevertheless, it seems to me that the best way to learn English is to study abroad in a foreign land, choosing a county where the native language is one of the many forms of English as it is spoken today.
