I was born in the city and have never lived anywhere else except Vancouver. I hate living in the countryside because I hate the smell of cows and horses. The disadvantage of living in the city is that houses tend to be very expensive and small. The advantage is that it is very convenient for people who like to go shopping all the time.
[b]Houses are expensive in the city[b] For example, houses in Langley, a community outside Vancouver, are around 300,000 dollars and three times larger than houses in East Vancouver. A small house in East Vancouver costs around 500,000 dollars. The prices are so high that many young families cannot afford to buy a house in Vancouver. In addition, there is not a lot of property space. People live very close together. For instance, my house almost touches my neighbor’s house. My friend, who lives in the countryside, says that houses there are very far apart, that the community is very small, and that he knows everyone in his community. I know the people living next door to me, and have no clue as to who lives in the house in front of mine.
I enjoy going shopping for clothes and food. I go to Metrotown and Richmond center twice a week. I live very close to Metrotown and East First Avenue Mall, where I can buy fresh fruits, vegetables, and meat everyday. Having a variety of shops nearby is very convenient. The last time, my friend went shopping was three months ago. He lives in the countryside and it takes him an hour to drive to a mall. He says the hour trip is a waste of time, not to mention hard on gas, and that he would rather shop somewhere closer if you could. Unlike the city, though, there are no buses in the countryside. There is a bus stop in front of my house and the bus comes every five minutes. Without a car, transportation is a major problem in the countryside.
The countryside is not my style. I enjoy living in a big city such as Vancouver. Going shopping, especially for clothes is my favorite hobby. Living in the countryside would definitely change my style.
