You have recently done a project comparing leisure time today with leisure time in the past. Your English teacher has now asked you to write a composition, giving your opinions on the following statement:

Young people today have far more free time than their grandparents had when they were young

Answer:
Leisure time – today and in the past

In today’s world, as well as in the past, leisure time is a period of time in which one doesn’t have to work.

Some people claim that young person in these days has a plenty of free time compared to 100 years ago. They believe that when one is able to use computers, fax machines, printers or others invention of modern age at work, one has more time for oneself. Furthermore, one can use the appliances, such as a washing machine, cooker, dish washer or microwave oven at home, it saves oneself time too.

However, other people believe that this opinion is erroneous. They think that today young people work much longer than in the past. Life is faster, in one wishes to get a better job or to be promote, one has to study or work harder than the others. As a result, one has less time for hobbies.

To sum up, it seems to me that young people today do not have more leisure time than in the past. On the other hand, today they have much more possibilities how to spend their free time.
