Holiday to Employees on the day of polling – Order by Election Commission
It is hereby ordered for declaration of Grant paid holiday(s) to employees in their respective constituency area on the poll day(s) by the Central/State Governments and all organizations in connection with General Elections in Karnataka on May 10, 16 & 22 2008.
Every person employed in any business trade, Industrial undertaking or any other establishment and entitled to vote at election to the Legislative Assembly of a State shall, on the day of poll, be granted a holiday as per Industries Association Act, 1963 Section 3 (A).
In sequence to the above order and since the election in Bangalore is on May 10, 2008, we may consider for grant of paid holiday to PNT employees on the day of poll.
May please approve.

OR - do you mean, this is an order being sent out, telling the powers responsible, that they are ordered to grant such leave?
Are the Central/State Governments doing the 'granting' of these days off; and if so, then who and what is the role of 'all organizations in connection'; OR, are Government employess AND employees of all organization connected with the elections being granted leave (and it is not being stated who is granting the leave)?

or any other establishment : this is very sweeping. It rather makes the idea of saying 'business, trade etc' unnecessary if you then go on to say (virtually) that EVERYBODY gets the day off if they are entitled to vote.

to the above order and since the election in Bangalore is on May 10, 2008, we may consider granting paid leave to PNT employees on the day of poll. I'm not clear about this though it may be crystal clear to those affected by it.

Elections in India are more than a process of voting someone to rule the nation. Since independence, elections in India have evolved a long way, but all along elections have been a significant cultural aspect of Independent India. It is more like a festival, an indication of jubilance, a show of loyalty, a change of power, and above all ensuring the importance of the individual in a democracy, the voter.
Now the elections in Karnataka (India) is on and the person who is above 18 years has right to vote. Hence, it was the order from the Election Commission to declare a grant paid holiday on polling day.

So - does that mean the government pays a grant to the businesses to cover the pay costs for those days?
I'm still trying to get my head around the idea of a 2 or 3 day 4th of July-type party as we all gaily trip in and out of polling stations here in Britain!![]()
No government will not pay grant to businesses. It is the responsibility of each & everyone to cast a vote, hence, the employer should declare holiday to employees to vote.
I was trying to understand where 'grant' fitted in, in your first post. So, the governments orders that businesses grant these days of paid leave of absence.

In India,leave of absence is GRANTED when an employee applies for LEAVE.The leave of absence may be paid or not.GRANTED-SANCTIONED.
