Before talk about the experiment design, I have to introduce three terms that I will use in the rest of the paper. They are physical space, visual space and regular center-out task. Physical space means “the monkey’s hand coordinate system”, which represents the monkey’s hand moving space. Visual space means what the monkey see in the 3D monitor, it represents the difference between where the monkey’s hand is positioned in space and where the target is positioned. A regular center-out task is a classic experiment setup which needs monkeys to move their hands toward target zone in the physical space; and both their hands position (which is tracked by a 3D space tracking system) and the physical space targets zone are linearly transformed and shown in the visual space. The monkeys will get a fixed amount of liquid reward for each successful trial.
