Thank you for your correction and comment. You are helpful. This is a piece of translation but not my own composition.

I realized some words are redundant because of somehow repeating when I did this. But I didn't to try to understand what the original author referred to. So it seems clumsy here. I'll try to improve next time.

It's all about personal preference, but I like bilateral because "Lateral-thinking is about reasoning that is not immediately obvious and about ideas that may not be obtainable by using only traditional step-by-step logic." wikipedia

The modern alternative to "lateral-thinking" is "thinking outside the box".

If the Japanese and Chinese found it hard to set aside past differences, then I am sure they would have employed lateral-thinking in coming to an agreement.
