Summary: Marsupials

Today I wrote a summary of a text about marsupials and would like to get some comments and proofreadings on it.

"In spite of being a mammal, the marsupials differ from most animals by their extraordinary lifecycle. After a very short gestation period, the uncomplete developed embryo crawls from the mothers´ reproductive tract to the pouch, where it is feeded by the mothers´ nipple and becomes an lifeable being.
Marsupials do not build families like other mammals. While the baby evolves in the first year after nesting the pouch, the mother raises it on her own without the father.
Even though marsupial species had been living throughout some continents, today they do only remain in New Zealand and Australia.
Despite having sophisticated in about 250 species, there a lot of common properties. Since all marsupials are nocturnal, the auditory and olfactory senses were good developed; moreover, in order to protected the young embryo in the pouch, these animals have special bones to support the wall of the pouch. Due to settling alternative habitats, the only important difference between the species is that some prefer plants as food whereas others eat insects and meat."

This is a correction of content, not of language. There are no marsupials native to New Zealand. The only marsupials wild here are possums descended from an ill-thought out venture in the late 1800s. Possums are completely protected in their native Australia and are a HUGE pest here in NZ. There are more than 90 million of them, spreading bovine tuberculosis and stripping native flora. People think of NZ as famous for its sheep but we now have nearly three times as many possums as sheep. Several efforts have been made to try to educate people from other countries that buying products made from NZ possum fur and skins is actually a very GOOD thing to do for the environment.
