Correct Usage

Here I would like to know the correct usage of the following sentences.
1. Walking down on an old road.
2. They refuge in wrong religion.

Number one is not a sentence, but makes sense.
Number two is a sentence, but does not make sense.

Therefore, I am unable to divine a "correct usage" of either.

Here I would like to know the correct usage of the following sentences.

Walking down an old road >> part sentence, which could metaphorically say someone is following an out-of-date custom.

They took refuge in a/the wrong religion. >> They chose to follow a religion that others regard as wrong.

NB "Refuge" is only a noun. There is no verb "to refuge". The nearest words would be "to retreat" or "to hide" or "to shelter". It rather depends on the full context as to which is best to use.
