What differences in the range of the teaching subjects and methods do you wish there had been and why?

In my opinion my education didn’t prepare me for life in today’s world very well. First of all I started studying foreign languages too late, when I was 8, and the teaching methods were bad in the sense that we only studied grammar and writing activities without improving our speaking and listening abilities. For example, every Sweden student aged 18 can speak at least three foreign languages very well, instead Italian ones are only able to speak a little of English, except they are specialising in foreign languages. Moreover in my school education theoretical activities have always been more important than practical ones. For example, In many foreign schools students are used to do chemical experiments or to play a music instrument with good results. My education has been important for me for spiritual values. In fact subjects such as literature, philosophy have contributed to create a profound social, political and religious consciousness, which I think is really important.
I think there should be changes in the school’s field. In fact nowadays teaching methods rarely prepare students for the world of work. In the secondary school teachers give you a method, a define way of thinking, but on the whole you don’t study what you are really interested in or, if you do by choosing a specialisation you really like, it doesn’t prepare you for work. In high school there are lots of subjects, sometimes 5 of 6 a day, and that’s confusing for a student who has to start over every time. I think language teaching has to be refined by increasing the number of foreign languages or improving the methods.
The English educational system has made giant steps introducing rules that allow students to choose subjects from the age of 16, so you can really study what you are interested in. In addiction, I think we should start teaching languages since nursery school, as children learn more easily new foreign languages. In any case school doesn’t teach you the real values in life. You learn how to live by leaving, not by sitting on school desks.

I went through the English educational system. At my school you had to start to learn French at 11 but you could drop all languages at 14. Hence the reason the English are such bad linguists.
