I started learning english about six month ago. I read books in
english, listened to podcasts, watched english films etc. My ability
in reading and listening grew quite fast, so did my confidence. But my
confidence was shattered when I tried to write a short letter in
english. I just couldn't make sentences look right. After several
attempts I gave up.
I think I'm starting to realise now what makes writing so difficult
for me. A major difficulty is my active vocabulary, which is very
limited. I spent more than hour writing this, and still can't make it
right. The only solution to this problem I can think of is to try and
write in english as much as possible until I get it right, or at least
correct. After all, this the method which helped me to learn reading in
english. I'm sure my first writings will be horribly ugly, but I hope
they will get better over time.
Second big obstacle is grammar. I tried to learn english grammar in
the past but failed miserably. I think the main reason was that I
tried to remember all the rules without using the language itself.
Of course the most important thing is feedback from native speakers,
and I can't think of better place than this forum. So I'm going to
flood this forum with my faulty writings hoping someone will find a
couple of minutes to edit them :) Thank you very much for your help.
Hi Aleck,
Self-criticism is an important attribute to have in acquiring and mastering any new skill. Writing clearly and correctly in a new language is no exception. At the same time, it's important to keep the right perspective about one's self-criticism. For someone who just started to learn English 6 months ago, your writing skills are very impressive! I doubt very much that, if had I started to learn your native language only 6 months ago, I could have reached the level of competence that you now demonstrate in writing English. Congratulate yourself on your accomplishments thus far.

Hello Aleck,
If you don't mind, I'd like to suggest that the word - English should always be capitalised.
I agree with Monticello about your ability of learning a new language.
