Is it recommended to use apostrophe after the acronyms of organizations or not?
UN's facilities or UN facilities
EU's activities or EU activities
Thank you for your help![]()
It depends on whether the acronym is being used as an adjective, or in the possessive:
The UN facilities in Geneva...
versus
The UN's decision to withdraw its troops from...
Thank you, but I still don't quite understand the difference. For example, I am working for an organization called RACVIAC as a translator and editor. I need to correct texts and I am always wondering whether to put the apostrophe or not. I'll give you a couple of examples:
RACVIAC('s) mission
RACVIAC('s) Director
RACVIAC('s) activities
RACVIAC('s) facilities
If you clear this out for me, I and my colleagues will be ever grateful![]()
RACVIAC's mission is the relief of suffering...This is possessive
The others are usually regarded as being adjectives:
RACVIAC Director Heinz Klinkerhof stated...
RACVIAC activities in the area of famine relief have...
RACVIAC facilities have been updated to......
The RACVIAC facilities at their Bonn headquarters have been updated to include...
