I am about to write my first novel, and I need some advice from brilliant writers in this forum.

Ok, I think that was a hard one. What about asking you to suggest some writers to read their works. Just suggest some native English modern writers. My teacher suggested that I will learn from reading others' works. What do you think?

Definitely, but remember Samuel Beckett's advice that the writer who doesn't repeat themselves repeats others.

Thanks for the advice!
A question for tdol. What do you mean by that a writer who does not repeat himself does repeating others?
For me, I am trying to write about some real experiances from my own culture and life. I am trying to read others' writings to learn and to see what may other writers be enterested in.
